Where the canal walk begins

Paseo Santa Lucía links the central area around Macroplaza to Parque Fundidora, so you can approach the route from either end. Its 2.5 km length makes it possible to plan a walk between the two, or to pair the canal with a visit to one of its adjoining destinations.

The canal opened in 2007, when Parque Fundidora hosted the Universal Forum of Cultures. The park’s industrial history stretches further back: the former Compañía Fundidora de Fierro y Acero de Monterrey began operating its blast furnaces in 1900 and closed in 1986, after 86 years of operation.

From Hotel 5a Avenida, Paseo Santa Lucía is about 2.8 km away; the hotel’s 3-star rooms in central Monterrey are in the downtown area.

You can follow the canal-side route between Macroplaza and Parque Fundidora, covering 2.5 km from one end to the other. Choose your starting point based on which destination you want to visit first, then continue along the canal toward the other.

At Parque Fundidora, the former steelworks grounds became a public park by presidential decree in 1988. The park opened in 2001 and became a Site Museum of Industrial Archaeology. Its grounds cover 144 hectares and preserve 16 historic buildings and 127 pieces of steelmaking machinery.

Ticket
office tickets are valid for boarding on the day they are issued

The Paseo Santa Lucía boat trip is a guided 2.5 km transfer between Parque Fundidora and the Museo de Historia Mexicana, with an optional return to your starting point. That makes the boat a way to connect the park with the museum, rather than just a ride along one stretch of the canal.

A Nuevo León government procedural manual distinguishes two ticket arrangements: prepaid tickets, purchased through the Paseo Santa Lucía coordination office before boarding, and tickets bought at the ticket office for same-day boarding. The manual says prepaid tickets have an open date, while ticket-office tickets are valid for boarding on the day they are issued.

Parque Fundidora has 10 entrances around its perimeter. The Parque Fundidora and Y Griega Metro stations are beside the park, which you can also reach on foot or by boat along Paseo Santa Lucía from Macroplaza.

The park’s interactive map marks access points, parking, restrooms, information and first-aid services. Its paths are wide and entrances are adapted, but detailed accessibility routes are still being added to the map and accessibility details are pending validation.

Macroplaza is the canal’s other endpoint and a natural place to begin if you want to connect the route with downtown sights. The Macroplaza Monterrey visitor guide covers what to see around the square.
